BRIDGE UPDATE! |
 |
 |
|
We've spoken to a bloke in High-Vis guiding a JCB around today and him and his mate reckon "yeah pal you can definitely walk it next weekend, you could get a motability scooter on it too. Hey can you drive a JCB? You'd do a better job than 'im!" (that's an actual quote, I'm not trying to be funny)
So it seems walking to and from the hotel is a GO! It's not drivable, but there's a million Diversion signs around the place so you should have no trouble.

FatBoyLAN P12 - What you need to know |
 |
 |
|
Sup team. We’ve been and had a good scout around the venue and weighed up as many of the potential issues as possible. Here’s the skinny:
That big old dump over the road from the hall is becoming a big new dump. That’s Right!, it’s gradually becoming a multi-large-nation-GDP recycling plant, and with that comes some roadworks and strengthening of the bridge between the A4/Hotel and our lovely shed^H^H^H^Hhall. What does this mean? Let me break it down for you.
Roads? Where we’re going we… ok maybe we do :(
Currently the Hall is inaccessible from the Hotel by driving over the bridge. You have to go the long way round (thing longcat but longer). Nearer the time we’ll post the full routes for this. These are PROPER COUNTRY ROADS people. No “risking it” with a pint in you, seriously. A lot of it is single track, ridden with potholes and full of Deer and Old Dears. Hopefully the bridge may be open by then though.
Walking over the bridge is currently possible, but we don’t know if it will be during the weekend. We have the number of the company responsible, so will be checking with them nearer the time. There’s an alternative route to walk to the hotel along the canal.
Storm the compound!
Whatever you do, don’t storm the compound. Around the back of the hall there is a compound where the construction company are keeping some of their “shit”. It’s fully CCTVd and floodlit and is raising the hall a really decent amount of much needed income, so it’s well worth it. It won’t get in the way, but it’s there.
Pikeys? I fucking hate pikeys
They’re not pikeys, don’t worry. But the construction crew have a few caravans situated around the back of the hall that are mostly only there during the week. They’re all friendly, no trouble and keep themselves to themselves. Please don’t ask them if they like dags.
FOOTBALLLLLL!
No, not real football, but soccer. The pitch has been frozen most of the winter and now the football players are doubling up on matches at weekends to make up the hectic schedule. This means that showers will be available in the afternoons only once they’ve departed. We suggest making friends with someone who’s in the hotel.
Sleeping
Sleeping will be either in the main hall itself (not recommended), camping or at the Hotel. there is NO sleeping in the shower rooms.
So why are you still doing the event?
It’s really not bad at all. The only slight inconveniences are the roads, which basically adds an extra 10 mins to your journey. We’re telling you all this in the interest of Full Disclosure, so you don’t all rock up a bit surprised. It’s all good though, it’ll still be an awesome LAN as usual and we’ll all get drunk and be merry.
I have a question!
Of course you do. #fatboylan on Quakenet (when it isn’t being DDoSed by Libya or whatever), or @boffbowsh, @gilesdavis or @brainslans on Twitter is where you can reach us.
Cool story bro, when can I sign up?
Wednesday 2nd February, 20:00 GMT. Be there, or, you know, miss out. You know the drill by now.

FBL-P12: Signups delayed by 1 week (nooooo) |
 |
 |
|
Hi all,
We've decided to delay opening the FBL-P12 signups for 1 week. We've just found out that, as a result of the building work going on over the road from the hall right now, there are some mental question marks we have regarding the event that we want to go and check out before taking all your money and fleeing to the caymans.
There is potentially work going on to replace the railway bridge between the hall and the hotel, which is our main concern - if the route just over the bridge isn't suitable for pedestrians we'd like to be able to let you guys know beforehand - and we've not seen the extent of the construction of this new recycling centre yet, so felt we should really go and take a look, take some photos and be sure we can still run the event the way we want to before signups opened. We don't want to sell out and then find out there were problems that would affect the event too late.
To be honest we don't envisage there being any show-stoppers, but in the interests of everyone knowing the state of play beforehand, we're going to delay signups by 1 week - during which we'll be popping over to Padworth and having a look round so we can set both our and your minds at rest.
Sorry for those of you who set reminders for this evening - moar updates soon! :)
Cheers, Da FBL Massiv.

OMG FBL |
 |
 |
|
This is your reminder that awesomeness that is FBL-P11 kicks off tomorrow evening!
When?
The LAN begins at 20:00 on Friday 29th of Jan and runs right through until 18:00 on Sunday the 31st. The venue is Padworth Village Hall, Padworth. If you want a postcode for your satnav - use RG7 4HY.
If anyone is, for whatever reason, unable to attend and hasn't let me know please make sure you do so as soon as possible. We can always offer any un-used seats up for grabs even at the last minute and any seats that are re-sold will be refunded.
Sleeping
As per usual, sleeping space is limited to one of the two changing rooms. We're not sure whether the football teams are going to be using the hall over the weekend, but there's always a chance they'll arrive on at least one of the mornings and want to get changed.
Therefore, while we're not going to stop you from using one of the changing rooms for sleeping in, it is STRONGLY recommended that you man up to the winter weather, bring a tent and camp outside if at all possible. It's a much safer way of ensuring you won't be woken early in the morning, is more comfortable too and has the added bonus of not having to spend a night listening to Quietus!
For the opulent, you can also book a room in the holiday inn just down the road (easily within stumbling distance) if you wish. I know quite a few people have done this already! :)
Bookings can be made online here .
As normal, the hall showers will be available from Saturday morning onwards. Remember to bring a towel.
The LAN
It'll be a typical FBL, of course! Friday night will be gaming mixed with par-tay. We'll be getting in a certain amount of communal food & drink, but don't expect this to cover you completely. Bring your own booze for Friday and your own food.
The kitchen will be available for all - but please make sure you clear up after yourself. If you prepare your own food, please do your own washing up and put your rubbish in the bin. Cans and glass bottles should also be put in the recycling bins, we need to save the limited bin space for none-recyclable waste.
Expect a mix of gaming, casual drinking and socalising for the rest of the LAN. Internet access will be contended, so remember to update your Steam games and download any patches before the event if at all possible.

Any other questions, queries or problems please feel free to get in touch - e-mail, IRC (#fatboylan on Quakenet), telephone, carrier pigeon or whatever.

FBL-P10: Coverage Posted |
 |
 |
|
I accept that the FBL website has been somewhat lacking in, well, any kind of updates for the last few months and for this I apologise.
I hope to be able to announce the next public FBL event in the near future but until then, i've finally got around to posting the FBL-P10 Coverage.
Featuring the random hot air balloon launch that showed up to use the field as their launch site, outdoor shenenigans, BBQ photos - oh and some photos of the LAN too, you can find the gallery of photos on the FBL coverage site here.

FBL-P10: Your Reminder! |
 |
 |
|
Well hallo FBL'ers,
It's now officially 'mere days' until FBL-P10 kicks off, so this is your reminder!
When? ----- The LAN begins at 20:00 on Friday 7th September and runs right through until 18:00 on Sunday the 9th.
ZOMG read this bit! ------------------- This event sold out in record time, just a few minutes in fact. As a result we do have a fair few people who would have liked to attend who didn't manage to pay in time. Therefore, if you are no longer able to attend PLEASE contact one of the staff so we can sort a refund and let someone else take your place. Even if it's a last minute cancellation, please let us know anyway as we may still be able to fill your seat.
Additionally, if anyone is yet to pick their seat or wants to change seat - remember this is all handled on the website here so remember to check your seat.
The usual event details post will be posted later this week, but i'll cover the major details now.
Sleeping -------- As with FBL-P9, sleeping space is limited to one of the two changing rooms. While there's actually a fair bit of space in there, it is STRONGLY recommended that you bring a tent and camp outside if at all possible. There will NOT be room for everyone to sleep in the changing room.
For the oppulant, you can also book a room in the nearby hotel if you wish. It's recently re-branded from Marriott to Holiday Inn. Bookings can be made online here.
As normal, showers will be available from Saturday morning onwards. Remember to bring a towel.
The LAN ------- As usual, Friday night will be gaming mixed with par-tay. The LAN will be providing limited food and drink, but don't expect us to supply you with booze and grub all weekend - you will need to bring your own!
If anyone has any 'big game' suggestions for the rest of the LAN, please feel free to post on the FBL forums to give everyone else the chance to get everything installed and patched ready for the LAN.
Weather permitting, we'll be running a BBQ too, but you might have to venture outside into the daylight if you want to partake. :)
----
If anyone has any questions or queries, please feel free to drop me an e-mail, grab any of the FBL staff in #fatboylan on Quakenet IRC or ask on the forums.
