Once you've had fat, you won't go back!

OMG FBL
This is your reminder that awesomeness that is FBL-P11 kicks off tomorrow evening!

When?

The LAN begins at 20:00 on Friday 29th of Jan and runs right through until 18:00 on Sunday the 31st. The venue is Padworth Village Hall, Padworth. If you want a postcode for your satnav - use RG7 4HY.

If anyone is, for whatever reason, unable to attend and hasn't let me know please make sure you do so as soon as possible. We can always offer any un-used seats up for grabs even at the last minute and any seats that are re-sold will be refunded.

Sleeping

As per usual, sleeping space is limited to one of the two changing rooms. We're not sure whether the football teams are going to be using the hall over the weekend, but there's always a chance they'll arrive on at least one of the mornings and want to get changed.

Therefore, while we're not going to stop you from using one of the changing rooms for sleeping in, it is STRONGLY recommended that you man up to the winter weather, bring a tent and camp outside if at all possible. It's a much safer way of ensuring you won't be woken early in the morning, is more comfortable too and has the added bonus of not having to spend a night listening to Quietus!

For the opulent, you can also book a room in the holiday inn just down the road (easily within stumbling distance) if you wish. I know quite a few people have done this already! :)

Bookings can be made online
here .

As normal, the hall showers will be available from Saturday morning onwards. Remember to bring a towel.

The LAN

It'll be a typical FBL, of course! Friday night will be gaming mixed with par-tay. We'll be getting in a certain amount of communal food & drink, but don't expect this to cover you completely. Bring your own booze for Friday and your own food.

The kitchen will be available for all - but please make sure you clear up after yourself. If you prepare your own food, please do your own washing up and put your rubbish in the bin. Cans and glass bottles should also be put in the recycling bins, we need to save the limited bin space for none-recyclable waste.

Expect a mix of gaming, casual drinking and socalising for the rest of the LAN. Internet access will be contended, so remember to update your Steam games and download any patches before the event if at all possible.

----

Any other questions, queries or problems please feel free to get in touch - e-mail, IRC (#fatboylan on Quakenet), telephone, carrier pigeon or whatever.

FBL-P10: Coverage Posted
I accept that the FBL website has been somewhat lacking in, well, any kind of updates for the last few months and for this I apologise.

I hope to be able to announce the next public FBL event in the near future but until then, i've finally got around to posting the FBL-P10 Coverage.

Featuring the random hot air balloon launch that showed up to use the field as their launch site, outdoor shenenigans, BBQ photos - oh and some photos of the LAN too, you can find the gallery of photos on the FBL coverage site here.

FBL-P10: Your Reminder!
Well hallo FBL'ers,

It's now officially 'mere days' until FBL-P10 kicks off, so this is your reminder!

When?
-----
The LAN begins at 20:00 on Friday 7th September and runs right through until 18:00 on Sunday the 9th.

ZOMG read this bit!
-------------------
This event sold out in record time, just a few minutes in fact. As a result we do have a fair few people who would have liked to attend who didn't manage to pay in time. Therefore, if you are no longer able to attend PLEASE contact one of the staff so we can sort a refund and let someone else take your place. Even if it's a last minute cancellation, please let us know anyway as we may still be able to fill your seat.

Additionally, if anyone is yet to pick their seat or wants to change seat - remember this is all handled on the website here so remember to check your seat.

The usual event details post will be posted later this week, but i'll cover the major details now.

Sleeping
--------
As with FBL-P9, sleeping space is limited to one of the two changing rooms. While there's actually a fair bit of space in there, it is STRONGLY recommended that you bring a tent and camp outside if at all possible. There will NOT be room for everyone to sleep in the changing room.

For the oppulant, you can also book a room in the nearby hotel if you wish. It's recently re-branded from Marriott to Holiday Inn.
Bookings can be made online here.

As normal, showers will be available from Saturday morning onwards. Remember to bring a towel.

The LAN
-------
As usual, Friday night will be gaming mixed with par-tay. The LAN will be providing limited food and drink, but don't expect us to supply you with booze and grub all weekend - you will need to bring your own!

If anyone has any 'big game' suggestions for the rest of the LAN, please feel free to post on the FBL forums to give everyone else the chance to get everything installed and patched ready for the LAN.

Weather permitting, we'll be running a BBQ too, but you might have to venture outside into the daylight if you want to partake. :)

----

If anyone has any questions or queries, please feel free to drop me an e-mail, grab any of the FBL staff in #fatboylan on Quakenet IRC or ask on the forums.

Live from FBL-P9
That's right!

We're now into day 2 of FBL-P9; and we're about to get stuck into some games of 'old school' BF1942 after enjoying far too much meat from the BBQ.

Keep up with the event even if you're not here via the webcams which you can find here.

FatBoyLAN-P9 Signups Open!
Oh yes, That's right!

Signups for the next FatBoyLAN Padworth, FBL-P9 event are now open. The LAN will run from 20:00 on the 20th of April right through until 18:00 on the 22nd.

Why P9? Well the summer event was still technically P8, but we called it Summer 2006 or something. We don't like to get confused, and counting is too hard, so this is FBL-P9

It has indeed been a very long time since the last FBL, so let's make this one go with a bang to make up for it!

Now I know a LOT of you will be thinking that date sounds familiar. That's because it clashes with BugAlugs' 30th Birthday Weekend. Allow me to explain.
We have had the hall booked for months. Before Jay announced his shindig. However, we've been waiting for some issues with the hall to be cleared up before we announced. We now cannot un-book the hall. If we did, we'd still have to pay and we really can't afford to lose that much money. FBL turns no profit as most of you know, so it'd have to be funded out of our own pockets.
I personally am gutted that I'll be missing Jay's birthday, as I know are other FBL staff. I can only apologise that it turned out this way, but there's nothing we can do without losing a lot of money. I really hope Jay gets the attendance at his party that he wants and deserves, and that we don't take anyone away who was planning to go.

One big change for this event unfortunately is a change of circumstances at the hall. Due to an insanely large amount of vandalism at the hall from local idiots, the committee took a decision to move a Caretaker on-site permanently. He now has a flat in the Westbury Committee room, commonly referred to as the Sleeping Room. This of course means we have a little less space than normal. We do have both shower rooms available all weekend for sleeping, with no footballers coming in and disturbing, so that will make things easier. However, by far the best way to sleep now at FBL will be in a tent. I repeat please please camp at this FBL if you can. We may only open one shower room for sleeping to allow for showererers in the morning, so assume that space will be very limited (and cold and hard).

With those two bits of unfortunate news out of the way - here's what you can expect from the lan:

  • 46 hours of great gaming with some actual organisation :o

  • The great party atmosphere you've come to expect from an FBL, especially on the Friday night

  • Music, Movies, Big Screen games, GeeDee naked

  • Very fast selling tickets - only 28 participant places!

The cost of the event is £25, £5 more than previous events due to increased hall costs. From my limited research, that still makes us one of the cheapest LANs in the UK, it won't break the bank.

Don't forget you can now pay for the events directly on the website. Just follow the prompts during the signup process to do so, or you can sign up then come back to pay at your leisure on the "View Bookings" page under Edit Account.

Once you've paid for your place online, your status will automatically be updated on the website to Paid and you can go right ahead and pick yourself a seat.

If you do not wish to pay online, then simply complete the signup process as usual; but don't follow the online payments link. We still accept payment by PayPal to giles@fatboylan.co.uk (PayPal payments are subject to a £1 surcharge), direct bank transfer (contact GeeDee for account info), cheque or cash prior to the event.
